Terms of Service

Last updated: May 28, 2026

These terms govern your use of buildingcodes (the “Service”), a Model Context Protocol connector operated by KVA Labs that provides searchable access to New York City and federal building-code text. By connecting to or using the Service, you agree to these terms.

Research aid, not legal advice

The Service is provided for informational and research purposes only and is not legal advice. Code text is reproduced from publicly available enacted law and may contain extraction errors, omit figures or tables, or lag behind amendments. Always verify against the official source and consult NYC DOB and a registered architect or engineer before relying on any result.

No affiliation

buildingcodes is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official publication of the City of New York, the Department of Buildings, the Department of City Planning, HPD, or the U.S. Access Board.

Acceptable use

  • Use the Service through a standard MCP client and OAuth sign-in.
  • Do not abuse, overload, or attempt to disrupt the Service, and do not attempt to bypass authentication or access controls.
  • Do not use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to misrepresent results as official code interpretations.

Availability

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue it, or change the codes covered, at any time without notice.

No warranty

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, KVA Labs shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any decision made or action taken in reliance on the Service.

Changes

We may update these terms; continued use after a change constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above.
