the problem

You already know the rule exists. Finding it takes an hour.

The answer is spread across eleven books and three editions — scroll a PDF, chase a cross-reference, check whether your building is governed by the 2022 code or the 1968 one, then start again for the next question.

how it works

01

Paste one URL

Drop the server address into ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor — any MCP client. Thirty seconds, no sign-in, nothing to install.

02

Ask in plain English

Describe the situation the way you would to a colleague. Your assistant translates it into code vocabulary and searches for you.

03

Get the section, verbatim

The adopted text, tables and figures as published — with the section number and source document, so you can check it.

what you get back

you ask

My building has retail on the ground floor and offices above. Whose egress rules apply to the stair they share?

you get

BC 1004.5Multiple occupancies

1004.5 Multiple occupancies. Where a building contains two or more occupancies, the means of egress requirements shall apply to each portion of the building based on the occupancy of that space. Where two or more occupancies utilize portions of the same means of egress system, those egress components shall meet the more stringent requirements of all occupancies that are served.

questions

Is it really free?

Yes — no account, no sign-in, no payment. The corpus is read-only public law, so the connector is open to anyone with the URL.

How accurate is the text?

Every section is reproduced verbatim from the official published document, and every answer names the document it came from. It is a research aid, not the law — always verify against the official adopted code and a registered architect or engineer.

Which edition do I get?

The current one by default. Older editions are held separately and clearly labelled — the Building Code is available as 2022, 2014 and 1968 (Title 27), so work filed under an earlier code can be checked against the edition that governs it.

Do I have to install anything?

No. You paste one URL into your AI client's connector settings. Nothing runs on your machine.

Which assistants does it work with?

Any MCP client — Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others. The setup steps for each are in the Connect section above.
